An Architect’s Own (Part 11)

Back inside the house I was driving the contractors crazy (which I have a habit of doing)with my MEP selections. I selected a 2 zone electric heat pump that would take care of both heating and cooling . All my systems would be electric in hopes of installing solar panels down the road that would offset the cost of electricity. The contractors totally lost their minds and scratched their heads when I shipped 2 wall hung toilets that are usually used for commercial spaces. They are great because they save space and you can clean underneath them but they aren’t easy to install and routing plumbing through 19th century framing wasn’t easy.

The tank is slim and fits in between studs…eventually I thing everyone will have them!

Selecting faucets, tubs and fittings again proved to be an exercise in dissonance and sleepless nights along with my wife insistence on function (I just wanted it to look cool). I was looking for mordern yet simple selections that would work with the aesthetic and it wasn’t easy. It turns out that when Ludwig Mies van der Rohe said “Less is More” he really meant “Less costs More”.
