The team of Highland Associates (HA) and Crabtree Rohrbaugh & Associates (CRA) was commissioned by Northampton County
to provide A/E services for a new prison additions located adjacent to the existing building. The original prison was
built in the 1860's within a secure perimeter wall. Additional housing units constructed within the perimeter wall
over the years provided a bed capacity of 310.
Phase I of the project will include a new 60,000 sf. facility - 230 bed facility for the existing prison and 24 bed
addition at the existing community corrections facility. The new additions will provide a vital link between the two
facilities. The program includes new in-take to service the existing prison and new additions, new public entrance
and lobby, staff facilities, central control, outdoor vehicle and service sally parts and outdoor exercise. The project
involves phased construction and allow the existing facilities to remain in operation.
Total project cost for Phase I is anticipated at approximately $22,800,000 with construction completed anticipated
for January 2006. Phase II will involve abandoning and demolishing large portions of the existing older cell blocks
and will begin shortly after completion of Phase I construction.
