Highland Associates was commissioned to perform MEP engineering design services for the new Children's Specialized Pediatric Rehabilitation Hospital located on the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital campus in New Brunswick, NJ. The proposed building will be a free standing structure with five (5) floors initially and an additional three (3) future floors. The project size is approximately 125,000 square feet for Phase I with a budget nearing $50 million dollars.
Special design considerations include a new chiller plant along with a twin tunnel custom penthouse; steam from the campus central heating plant; self generated medical gases (except for central oxygen); dual feed 26,000 volt electrical service, and an extended 460 volt emergency power service.
The building includes a therapy pool area that will be conditioned by a heat recovery system that will reject dehumidification energy to the pool water. Pumping systems for both fire water and domestic service are designed to handle Phase I as well as future expansion.
In addition to this building, Highland Associates is expanding the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital boiler plant with the addition of a new 800 HP steam boiler and is involved with other projects at the Campus.
