Obstetrics Unit
In 2000, Moses Taylor Hospital worked with Highland Associates to create their new Family Birthing Suite. The warm and inviting new unit, designed around the Family-Centered Care concept caught the attention of the community as it was the first of it's kind in the region. As a result, Moses Taylor's volume originally estimated at 30% of the market, quickly grew to over 50%. Increased volume along with the addition of a new physician's group sparked the need for an expanded unit less than 5 years from the facility's opening.
Highland understood the importance of the Family Centered Care Philosophy and planned the expanded unit around this care delivery model. The design established a up-scale and comfortable atmosphere which reduces the stress and anxiety for patients and their families without compromising the needs of the medical staff. All elements of patient rooms support the idea that childbirth is seen as wellness and that family is actively involved the labor, birth and new born care. Each patient room includes family support sleeping amenities, storage, and plenty of space for Mom, baby and family. A large sit-in nourishment "café" is provided for patients and their families.
Other project components include staff and patient lactation support areas, a ten bed new born nursery, a fifteen bed private room concept NICU, two Ante-Partum patient rooms, a two-bed recovery room, a three-bed Triage, expanded nurse's stations, and staff support areas.
Highland Associates listened to the philosophy of the Family Centered Care model and what resulted was an award winning facility that maintains the top 1% of patient satisfaction nationally now serving roughly 85% of the regional market.
