Highland Associates provided Master Planning this 200 Acre Data Center Campus in East Benton, Pennsylvania that may
ultimately accommodate 750,000 square feet of raised floor. The initial Data Center consists of 264,000 square feet
of raised floor equipment space plus infrastructure and support spaces totaling 380,000 square feet. The data center
will be constructed to a Tier 4 standard and will house a single tenant.
A high voltage electrical utility service will be the primary source of power for the site with an on-site co-generation
plant providing redundant electrical power as well as peak shaving capability and a diesel emergency power generation
system providing emergency power for the site. The data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure will be highly
reliable and is designed for an initial overall data center floor load density of 50 Watts / Square Foot expandable to
125 Watts / Square Foot. Electrical system highlights include:
- 69kV- 58 MW Utility Service
- 13.2kV- 24MW Gas Turbine Generation Plant (2nd "Utility" Service).
- 13.2kV- 24MW Diesel Emergency Power Generation Plant.
- 8-3750 kVA Doubled Ended Unit Substations with Automatic Secondary Selectivity.
- 13.5 MW 2N Redundant UPS System.
- 216 kVA Dual Transformer ASTS Power Distribution Unit
The mechanical system will consist of multiple electric drive centrifugal chillers located in three separate mechanical
equipment rooms around the perimeter of the raised floor area. A loop piping system will provide multiple paths of
chilled water flow via cross connection sub-mains resulting in two (2) paths of chilled water flow to any CRAC floor
cooling unit. The system will utilize primary/secondary variable flow chilled water pumping as well as water economizer
during cold winter months for energy conservation. The plant will be under full control of a central computerized
Building Management System. The plant is designed to permit growth from the initial 50 watts/sf to 125 watts/sf.
without flow interruption or downtime. Final chilled water plant capacity is estimated to be 10,000 tons.
