British Airways previously housed over one hundred of their flight crew members in various New York City hotels on a nightly basis. With that level of housing required, it became possible for British Airways to own and operate a hotel and appreciate a savings. British Airways purchased the former Viscount Hotel and commissioned Highland Associates to renovate the thirty-six story, 105 room hotel.
The existing interior of the building was completely gutted and removed. Renovations to the facility increased the number of rooms to 120 and included a new health club, lounge/bar, game room and reading room.
The exterior of the building was updated with a new curtain wall system on the north and south facades. The existing mechanical systems were upgraded to meet the increased heating and hot water requirements per floor.
Highland Associates designed the renovations to The Fitzpatrick in collaboration with various consultants.
