Highland Associates was selected as architect/ engineer to design and coordinate the subdivision of an existing Federated Department Store building that formerly held a Sterns department store.
The 150,000 square foot building was divided to create ground and second floor retail space for Galyans Dept Store which became a tenant and a story Bloomingdale's Furniture and Rugs Store.
Highland conceived and executed a two story atrium that allowed access to a future basement tenant by means of escalator and elevator ,and the Furniture Store.
The atrium was designed with a cantilevered glass canopy and curtain wall that gave a certain lightness to the new building massing while strongly defining the main entry.
The signature Bloomingdale's Black and White color scheme was elegantly articulated with new floating backlit panels installed over the existing facade. Highland integrated all the building interiors including new escalators, Mall entrances, lighting and featuring.
