Highland Associates was commissioned in 1991 by the New York Mets, along with the construction management firm of
Garbade Companies, to design and build a 6,000 seat AA Baseball Stadium under guidelines of "Professional Baseball
Standards." The facility could not exceed a budget of 4.8 million and had to be open for the first game in 1992.
Compounding the difficult schedule were additional requirements such as four (4) fully equipped luxury boxes, a major
league lighting system, underground batting and pitching tunnel and a playing field with an underground sprinkler and
drainage system which had to be identical to Shea Stadium (home of the New York Mets).
Not only did Highland Associates/Garbade team provide the Stadium in time for the first game and under the 4.8 million
cap, they also received the highest praise from the New York Mets and the PBA.
