Catskill Regional Medical Center

Project Type: Healthcare

Location: Harris, NY

Services: Architecture, Engineering

Size: n/A

The Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY, has been the center
for hospital care in the Monticello region since 1960.  Since that time,
the hospital has made a transition and is now a part of the Greater
Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS), the parent company to Catskill
and Orange Regional Medical Center.

In an effort to improve patient safety and comfort, the hospital requested
Highland to analyze and make recommendations to the entrances for
both the Main Hospital and the Ambulatory Services Buildings at their
main campus.  The Highland team created a design that would include
two canopies to protect visitors and patients from all weather conditions.
Each canopy completely covered the road and utilized materials that
were consistent with the image of the hospital while creating a strong
identification to the location of each entry.

The canopies were also designed to allow firefighting equipment to
travel under each entrance. The hospital and community are pleased
with the end result and have stated that the simple inclusion of the
entry canopies have drastically improved the image of the exterior of
each building.
