Highland Associates was commissioned, as part of a design/build team, to provide architectural, MEP/S engineering and interior design services for the new Alstom Car Shell Manufacturing Facility in Hornell, NY. Construction of this new 135,000 sq. ft. rail car manufacturing facility took place at 3 Shawmut Park Dr. just north of Alstom’s current Plant 2. Alstom expanded its Hornell footprint after the company was awarded a Metra contract to supply rail cars for the Chicago metropolitan area.

The 135,000 sq. ft. facility includes a 18,000 sq. ft. warehouse, a 12,000 sq. ft. office space, and 105,000 sq. ft. manufacturing space with four overhead cranes designed to support manufacturing of passenger rail cars. Working closely with the corporate team from Alstom, Highland developed interior finishes in keeping with established corporate branding and sustainability initiatives. Additionally, the Highland Team provided interior and exterior renderings for visualization.

Leading societies to a low carbon future, Alstom develops and markets mobility solutions that provide the sustainable foundations for the future of transportation. Alstom’s product portfolio ranges from high-speed trains, metros, monorail and trams to integrated systems, customized services, infrastructure, signaling and digital mobility solutions.
