Marywood University began sponsoring an Esports Athletics Program in the Fall of 2021. This program is housed in the terrace level of the Nazareth Student Center where approximately 2,000 sq. ft. was demolished and an Esport Arena and Office were created. Highland was selected to provide MEP Engineering services in collaboration with Hemmler + Camayd Architects.

This space contains a gaming lounge with 30 gaming stations, comfortable chairs and high-tech equipment to create a competitive, fun, and productive environment for students on the team. Highland upgraded the existing building services infrastructure to meet the needs of the program. The existing HVAC systems were reconfigured to provide proper ventilation and low load conditioning while additional sensible cooling equipment was designed to accommodate the high heat loads generated by the Arena gaming computers and supporting equipment rooms. The electrical infrastructure contains an uninterruptible power system (UPS) backed by a generator capable of supporting not only the electrical gaming power but also the HVAC for tournament reliability / redundancy. A powerful internet connection separate from the campus network was established and a plan to accommodate the hundreds of Esports infrastructure cables was put into place.

There is no doubt that Esports will continue to evolve as awareness, competition, and technology increases. This space has the necessary resources needed to evolve along with it.
